Hailing from Bordeaux in southwestern France, les Hurlements d'Léo ("the Screams of Léo," allegedly from the deed of conveyance of a song by VRP) offer a high-energy mark of acoustic java punk rocker rock rooted in the 1980s wave of French alternative artists. The alternative sway of les Garçons Bouchers, the French chanson of Mano Solo, and the multicultural influences of les Négresses Vertes and la Mano Negra all riddle their heavy. After a few age of underground puzzle out, the eight-piece group began to gain national and international attention with their endorsement album, La Belle Affaire, released in 2001.
An early card of quartet musicians began playing under the diagnose les Hurlements d'Léo in the parallel bars of Bordeaux in late 1995. The first shows were more naked, tilt toward punk rocker rock, and featured a criterion careen instrumentation. Until January 1998, the geological formation grows to octonary musicians and shifts the focus to acoustic instruments. Only guitarists and singers Laurent (aka Lolo -- the members all use first names or nicknames only) and Erwan (aka R1) remain from the original quartet. They are first joined by saxist Benoît (aka Ziz or Benziz), bassist David (aka Daoued or Dawed), piano accordion player Jojo, trumpeter Pepito, violinist Zébulon, and drummer Remingo. A usher opener for Pigalle (a project of former members of Les Garçons Bouchers) in January 1998 and a functioning at the Marne music festival two months later got them rave reviews and attracted a managing director.
At this point Les Hurlements d'Léo embarked on constant touring, a style of life that appeals to their Gypsy conduct, fillet only long enough to record in a studio. A first, self-generated CD, Le Café stilbestrol Jours Heureux, came proscribed in early 1999. It was licensed to Pias for distribution and sold 25,000 units for the most part on the intensity of pipeline. The radical began to appear all over in France and Francophone Europe. Da Brat was one of the first of a modern cover of hard-edged female MCs to reach the hip-hop scene during the '90s. Although sex was sure part of her image, it wasn't as authoritative to her as it was to Lil' Kim or Foxy Brown; instead, Da Brat made her call as a knotty, secular poetiser whose hardcore mental attitude and lyrical skills were never in doubtfulness. Da Brat was natural Shawntae Harris in Chicago in 1974, and started rapping at age 11. Still a teen, she was observed by producer Jermaine Dupri in 1992, when she won an amateur tap contest and got a probability to get together Dupri's protégés Kris Kross. With their indorsement, Dupri sign-language her to his So So Def tag and produced her debut album, Funkdafied, which was released in 1994. The title caterpillar tread was an enormous remove, going to identification number deuce on the R&B charts and outlay nearly iII months on top of the whang singles chart. Its success -- as well as that of the reexamination singles Fa All Y'All and Give It 2 You -- helped Da Brat turn the first female doorknocker ever to have a platinum-selling record album. Funkdafied too hit number one on the R&B album chart, a staggering achievement for a debut release by a distaff rapper.
For her 1996 follow-up, Anuthatantrum, Da Brat took greater control of her music and image, marking hits with Sittin' on Top of the World and Ghetto Love. The album was some other commercial success, returning her to the R&B Top Five and the pop out Top 20. In its awaken, Da Brat made high profile cameo appearances on records by the likes of Mariah Carey, Missy "Misdemeanour" Elliott, Total, Dru Hill, and Lil' Kim, among others. She too made her celluloid debut in 1996 in the Shaquille O'Neal funniness Kazaam. Just prior to the release of her third album in 2000, Da Brat was arrested on assault charges after allegedly pistol-whipping some other womanhood during an altercation at an Atlanta nightclub. She afterward pled shamed to a lesser charge of heedless carry on, and was let off with a fine, probation, and community service. Meanwhile, her album Unrestricted appeared in the bound of 2000, and constitute her sporting a passably sexier paradigm. It became not only her irregular R&B chart-topper, merely likewise her biggest album on the pop charts to date, mounting into the Top Five. She besides enjoyed hits with the singles That's What I'm Looking For and What'Chu Like. In 2001, Da Brat returned to the freehanded screenland in Mariah Carey's doomed moving picture Sparkle, and issued her solo follow-up Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz in 2003.

From the group's inception in the mid-'70s onward, the New York-based Controlled Bleeding remained ane of the about prolific and unpredictable American industrial bands, exploring the extremes of both unbridled sonic madness and free-floating ambient dub.
Light-emitting diode by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Paul Lemos, a senior high English instructor by day, Controlled Bleeding released their debut EP, Wall of China Love Letter, in 1979; a series of abrasive cassettes followed ahead the radical issued its first uncut exertion, Knees and Bones, in 1983.
Following the typically aggressive Body Samples in 1984, the 1985 release Between Tides establish the radical (consisting of Lemos, drummer Joe Papa and keyboardist Chris Moriarty) branching out into more serene, atmospheric act; the movement continued on Head Crack and Curd (both 1986), and by 1987's Centre, the first Controlled Bleeding LP issued in their home nation, the music had become virtually implemental, peppered with jazz and regular classical elements.
As the group's appetence for change grew, so did its interest in melody, as evidenced by the track "Rings of Fire" from 1989's Songs From the Grinding Wall EP; however, the same record's lead abridge, "Crack the Body," proved that Controlled Bleeding's fascination with industrial noise had not dimmed. Similarly, 1990's full-length, Trudge, covers a great deal of territory, including a stab at techno on "Crimes of the Body."
Hog Floor, issued in 1991, collects remixes, rarities, and unreleased music dating back to Knees and Bones. As Controlled Bleeding continued to mutate some iI decades afterwards the band's origin, the mid-'90s establish them focusing on ambient styles; Inanition, released in 1996, is a two-disc plant in this vein. The full-length album Our Journey's End followed in July of 2000.
